Home Security Safes

Home Security Safes - A Growing Trend In Home Security

Many people have a security system to protect their home; and until recently most have not even considered enhancing their security and peace of mind by purchasing one of the many home security safes that are on the market.  However, the current economic crisis seems to have a significant number of homeowners re-thinking this area of their protection.

Home security safes have traditionally been a way of protecting valuables from fire and burglary. However, the uncertainty of the economy has created a growing trend, everyday citizens are now buying home security safes to not only store their personal valuables and important documents, but to protect the money they are removing from an unsound banking system.

When Lance Hamilton, a salesman for Heritage Safes, was ask about the trend, he made the following observation: "I'd guess we've probably seen a 30 percent increase over the last three to four years."  He went on to say,  "It's really stretched across a vast majority of markets, it used to be just for gun owners... it's for the average person now."

If you are pondering adding a home safe as an additional layer of security for your family, there are three basics questions you should answer before moving forward with your purchase:

  1. What Will You Protect?

You will need to determine what it is you will be storing in your safe because not all safes are created equal.  There is a wide range of safes on the market and each is designed to protect a specific type of material or object.  Will you be using the safe for money and valuables, documents, media files, or guns?

  1. What Are the Types of Home Security Safes?

A homeowner can choose from 4 basic types of home security safes - general safes, wall safes, gun safes, and in-floor safes.

    • General Safe - The majority of people because they are designed to protect your documents and valuables and can be located just about anywhere you choose.  Its essential to buy a safe that is so heavy that any intruder would balk at trying to remove it from the premises.

    • Wall Safe - Make sure this is the way you want to go because of the work involved; however, this safe can be easily installed in a wood or concrete wall.  You'll need to make sure that the depth of the wall will be adequate for the safe you choose, in some cases you have to go with height if the wall is not deep enough.  You'll also have to hide the safe with a painting or some type of furnishing.

    • In-floor Home Security Safes - This is the perfect safe to hide from burglars because you can easily hide it under furniture, carpet, or other type of flooring.  Like wall safe, it will take some work to get one installed but could be well worth the effort.

    • Gun Safe: If you own firearms this is one of the best reasons to own a safe, especially if you have children. Needless to say, many tragedies and accidental deaths can be avoided by making the decision to purchase a gun.

What Are the Other Factors To Consider Before Purchasing?
  1. Fire protection
  2. Water protection
  3. Lock type - combination, electronic, keys, or biometric keypad.
  4. Impact protection

Home security safes deserve as much consideration as any major purchase, and should not be a rush decision.  Many people are often disappointed after making a selection because they do not take the time to educate themselves about the various home security safes that are on the market and the features that are available.

Armed with the proper information, you now have a solid foundation to weigh the many options available for home security safes and rest assured that you won't be making a decision that you will later regret.
